BEAUTY | MY MINIMAL SUMMER ACNE MAKEUP ROUTINE

Summer is well and truly here, and I have noticed that my makeup routine has changed itself up quite a lot since I last wrote a post about my makeup routine. During the summer I feel like I don't want to have lots of makeup on. I preferably would like to go out without any base makeup on, but since I suffer from acne and deal with quite a few acne scars, I don't feel as comfortable doing that quite yet. The past couple of weeks have been filled with concealer. Lots of concealer. It's basically the only thing I have used on my face during the summer.

Concealer is so easy to use. Because I don't really want to powder my face lots, or put lots of BB cream or foundation on, I gravitate towards my concealer quite often. So what I do is I usually put the Bourjois Radiance Reveal concealer in 02 beige on under my eyes. I blend that in with my fingers and then check to see how my skin looks. If I have any blemishes or acne scars I want to cover up, I use the Bourjois Radiance Reveal concealer again. I use this one because it's quite a hydrating concealer that doesn't really dry the skin out. I put the concealer on my skin and tap it into the skin using a Real Techniques Buffing Brush. Tapping the concealer on my blemishes made me notice that the blemishes are much more concealed when tapping instead of buffing it into my skin.

If I feel like this concealer is not doing the job well, I usually also use my NARS Concealer in the shade Custard. This stick concealer is perfect for hiding darker spots. What I do with this is I apply it to my face and then again tap it into my skin with my Real Techniques Buffing Brush.

Once I feel satisfied with my how my 'base' looks, I move on to bronzing my skin up. Of course you want to look tan and glowy during the summer. So I use my NARS Laguna Bronzer with the Zoeva Luxe Face Definer brush to bronze up my skin. I apply this to the hollows of my cheeks, my forehead and all the other places the sun would hit my face first. I always bring this down my neck too, as I find my neck just does not get tan at all.

Then I move on to highlight. I use the The Balm Mary Loumanizer. This highlight is quite intense, and because I get quite oily during the day, I like to tap off as much product as possible. I apply the highlighter with the Real Techniques Setting Brush. I put this on the high point of my cheekbone and bring a little bit of it down my nose.

My eyebrows are probably most important with this look. I don't really like to go out without my eyebrows on, ever. So I definitely need it for my minimal summer look. I usually use the Kiko Eyebrow Sculpt in shade 05, but they seem to just not stock it at my local Kiko anymore, so I searched for an alternative. I find that the L'Oreal Brow Artist Xpert is quite similar to the Kiko eyebrow pencil. This has the same kind of pencil like the Kiko one. I use the shade 105 Brunette. The only, tiny problem I have with this, is this has a bit more of a red tone in it. The Kiko one does not have that at all. However, I only discovered it while swatching them side to side on my hand. So at first I didn't even notice it.

I am very picky when it comes to mascara, and there are only a few that I really like. My current absolute favourites are the L'Oreal Volume Million Lashes in Extra-Black and the L'Oreal Falsh Lash Flutter mascara. First off I curl my lashes with the Shisheido eyelash curler. These eyelash curlers are the best in the world and immediately open my eyes. I then apply the Volume Million Lashes mascara first, and then put the Falsh Lash Wings mascara on. I don't mess around with mascara too much, as I don't want to get those 'spider' lashes.

The last thing I do is put on lip balm. At the moment I am using the Burts Bees Pomegranate lip balm. It's my go to lipbalm to use whenever I feel like my lips are quite dry. I recently got myself a tinted lip balm by Kiko, which I have not tried yet, but am very excited to try soon. If I like it, it will probably be mentioned in my five favourites of August, so keep your eye out for that.

That's it! This basically is my summer makeup routine. As you can see in the photo there are a few acne scars that aren't covered right now. I had an extraction/bio peel facial last week at my aesthetician, so right now my skin is a bit flaky and weird. The acne scars you see on this photo basically are scabs, or the skin around it is too flaky from my peel last week. It's too flaky to put any kind of concealing products on, so therefore I am staying away from face makeup as much as possible this week.

Right now I only put on some extremely hydrating day cream by Clarins and then fill in my eyebrows and put on some eyeliner and mascara to draw the attention away from all of my scabs and acne scars.
